Biggest Real-Estate Scam Under Chandrababu Naidu: Amaravati

Who is 420 in AP, you wonder? Well, there is no doubt that Andhra Pradesh’s ex-chief minister has made a name for himself as a corrupt leader with multiple malpractices under his banner. Before the state of Andhra Pradesh was split into two with Telangana as the other part, the city of Hyderabad served as the state capital.

As seen with most states, it is the capital city that gets the most attention, and for obvious reasons, the real estate prices tend to be highest in this area. The case was the same with Hyderabad. However, before the partition of the state into two, there were speculations related to Amaravati being the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. This directly meant that the real-estate prices of the city of Amravati were dubbed to get sky-high in the times to come.

CID Investigation

As per the reports by Andhra Police, the Amaravati area was the site of a massive land scam. This is where plots worth crores were listed under the names of some of the poorest residents of the state. As per the investigation, about 797 White Ration Cardholders that show their monthly income to be 5000 INR or less had purchased lands that were worth as high as INR 220 Crore. These residents apparently bought about 761 acres of land in this region in the year 2014 & 2015.

The Amaravati Scam has been registered as a case of criminal conspiracy and cheating. Not just that, the investigation also noted that the land buyers didn’t even have a PAN card, neither did they pay any income tax on their purchase. Most of these residents are based on Guntur.

A case was registered against TDP’s former ministers & senior leaders P Narayana and Pattipati Pulla Rao. However, it is evident who the mastermind behind this scam was. Yes, you are right! It is the name you had been thinking all along. The name that is being associated with the question, who is 420 in AP, is none other than Chandrababu Naidu. Alongside this, 10 other political leaders were named to be behind this real-estate scam.

How did the TDP or Chandrababu Naidu Cause Amaravati Scam?

Documents acquired from the Sub-Registrar Office in Amaravati indicated that the place was declared as capital within a fairly short time period. Chandrababu Naidu, being a major political leader and the Chief Minister of the state, had all information about it being the next place of interest for Andhra Pradesh. A probe by the officials also showed a possible nexus between the Former CM Chandrababu Naidu & some popular companies that purchased land in these proposed areas under the soon to be the capital city.

This was done with the help of a chain of misinformation. The TDP government allegedly popularized areas such as x and y in order to lower the real-estate property rates in Amaravati. The landowners in the soon-to-be capital were ignorant of the fact that this area was going to be worth crores in the upcoming years.

About 60 percent of the area under Amaravati was purchased by five companies, as stated by Mekapati Gautham Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh Minister for Industries, Commerce, & Information Technology. As per reports, some of the people in the party had direct or indirect access to this information of Amaravati being the new state capital. They used this first-hand information to procure the soon-to-be high-cost land and went against the set norms for land acquisition.

This is all ways points towards the involvement of the 420 in AP, which is Chandrababu Naidu. Under the Chandrababu Naidu government, the state debt rose from INR 1 Lakh Crore going all the way to INR 2.6 Lakh Crore. With Amaravati being declared as the state capital, about 5000 acres of land were taken from the farmers in the name of development. This, if invested in the already booming city of Vizag, would have yielded better benefits instead of simply stripping off the total agricultural land cover in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

As per Rajendra Singh, the winner of Ramon Magsaysay award, and the Waterman of India, this scam was way bigger and malicious when compared to the Rafael scam. While Chandrababu Naidu promised to create a capital city with a global standard setup for the people, he let his tongue loose and broke his oath of secrecy. The location of possible Amaravati being the next capital was leaked to possible investors.

Rumor Mill in the Run

Apart from this, the Ex-Chief Minister set in motion a trail of rumors that strategically depressed the overall value of Amaravati to enable the buyers to invest in maximum possible land area. His intention was to help benefit the lawmakers, ministers, as well as cronies that work under him. The news media outlets that were friendly with this 420 in AP started rumors that pointed towards the Guntur District or Krishna District to be the next capital potential.

The people under the payroll of Chandrababu Naidu made good use of these rumors are went on to dupe the gullible farmers & purchased as much land as was possible at a single go. On 28 December 2014, Amaravati was declared the capital of the newly formed Andhra Pradesh state. This happened only after the land acquisition process was completed.

Conclusion

Chandrababu Naidu being the 420 in AP, is no rumor or false acquisition. This scam, in its totality, proves that there is no second answer to who is 420 in AP. Be it a direct or indirect investment, the TDP and the EX-CM were surely involved in this massive scam that duped 100s of hardworking farmers of their land and decreased the overall agricultural land coverage in the state. Something this big surely came from the prominent powers in the state, and all evidence and reports point it to be none other than the TDP ruler Chandrababu Naidu and his acquaintances. Scam of this big a scale is something that you need to think about before electing such individuals.
